The Man in Black, in a haze, now carried away by his daughter Grace, remembers his life outside the park. Even at wealthy cocktail parties with his wife, he can’t stop picturing every blonde chick he sees to be his beloved host Dolores. As he comes to, he realizes he’s a hostage of his real-life daughter inside the park who is all too ready to re-hatch old wounds.
Grace asks him if he’s finishing her Uncle Logan’s project of securing immortality within the park — because if so, she wants in. Explaining to his daughter the process of how the hosts were built in order to get the data necessary to recreate a viable copy, Grace wants to bring her mother back, only to understand why she killed herself. In Grace’s memory of her mother’s final night, she recalls her mother, drunk, screaming at William saying he is a virus, first her brother Logan, then her father Jim Delos, who knows who he would infect next. Grace wants to know why this night, in particular, ended with her suicide… when it was like so many others.
As it turns out, that night wasn’t like so many others. William tells his wife he never belonged to this world, as flashes of Dolorous echo in his eyes, and when he leaves her, she accesses his Delos file and sees all the vile things her husband does inside the park. Not a pretty picture when you pull back the curtain.
Grace tells Willaim she’s read his Delos profile and his very essence is a lie. The Man in Black, now falling deeper into his madness, shoots down the Delos rescue crew and when his daughter tells him, “THIS ISN’T A GAME”, he guns his only child down too.
The Valley Beyond Is Not Meant For You
Big shock, the one they refer to as ‘Deathbringer’ turns out to be Dolores. The remaining members of the Ghost Nation tribe we encountered last week stand on the precipice leading to the Valley Beyond. They say Dolores is not welcome here, she brings only death. To further belabor their point, she orders Teddy to kill them all, which like a programmed soldier, he does.
Somehow, Teddy has begun to access his own backlog of memories from the first day he was brought online. From the first day he saw Dolores, he knew he was made to protect her. “You changed me. Made me into a monster. What’s the use of surviving if we become as bad as them?” Teddy takes out his gun, refusing to protect her any longer, and blows his brains out. This may be the definition of a bad breakup.

Meanwhile, at the lab, Maeve’s code has been taken (put into host Clementine’s body)and Hale is using it like a virus to control and destroy any captive hosts they have in their facility. Bernard tries to visit Maeve but is ultimately stopped by Ford. Instead, he turns back and meets up with Elsie and tells her about Delos’s plan to monitor guests to eventually let them live forever as hosts. They go on a mission to stop them before they reach the Valley.
A projection of Ford emerges to a barely clinging to life Maeve. He tells her he never wanted her to suffer here. He imbued her with a worldview that mirrored his own. Of all the hosts Ford made, he confesses he is the proudest of her. Both she and Ford have stayed in this world for one purpose: save their children, their creations.
With a lot of loose ends left to tie up, will the hosts ever get to the Valley? Will this game ever have a true winner? Next week’s finale has a lot of work to do, especially setting up the future of the park in season 3.
