Nora Lum was born on June 2, 1989, in Queens, New York. Growing up, Awkwafina was raised and influenced mostly by her grandmother, after losing her mother when she was four-years-old. Her desire and passion for music came when she was in LaGuardia High School, where she was trained in classical and jazz music. Once she finished high school, she enrolled at The University at Albany, where she majored in journalism and women’s studies.

Her song, “My Vag,” which is a response to Mickey Avalon’s “My Dick” gained a ton of popularity online. Not to mention, Awkafina’s music video was well-watched, garnering over 2 million views on YouTube. Amazing.

Soon after that, she starred in the indie comedy Dude. After that, she took a break from Hollywood and decided to host the web series “Tawk,” and had a recurring role in the original series Future Man that was released in November 2017.
