The seventh episode of HBO’s Westworld in the already action-packed second season airs this Sunday, June 3, 2018. In this episode, “Les Ecorches”, the official synopsis from the trailer gives an ominous warning from Dolorous, “You made us in your image. Created us to look like you, think like you, lead like you. Do you really think I would let that continue?”
This episode kicked off with Hale & the Delos thugs walking into… A ROOM FULL OF BACKUP BERNARD BODIES — WHILE THE “REAL” BERNARD WAS STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. This show is next level meta. Charlotte Hale whips off the sheet covering a backup Bernie unit and riffs, “I knew you’d have some skeletons in your closet, Bernard…” Just sign me up for next season already.

The jig is finally up — Delos Corp knows Bernard is a host, who doesn’t really understand he’s a host, acting like a human. While Elsie had Bernard in a memory plunge, it was only serendipitous he encounters Dr. Ford. It turns out Dr. Ford had Bernard print a backup control unit of him, before Dolorous blew his brains out in last seasons’ finale, and place him inside the park within Bernard’s memories.
Ford has even more power over the park in death than he did in life.
The guests are the variables and the hosts are the controls. The game is flipped, Delos is looking to copy the guests’ true human nature, the hosts were created to decode the guests. In doing so, eventually, these rich park-goers could download their consciousness and logged behavior into a future host form of themselves. Anyone can now cheat death.

Dolorous and her army are infiltrating the bases while other teams of hosts just continue to straight up murder everyone. Corporate is too busy trying to extract information from hosts and guard Abernathy then deal with the real threat, the unexpected company arrives. While they’re debating over whether to abandon Abernathy and save the key inside, Dolorous and Teddy finally reach them along with her father and have a nice chat with Hale: she knows their plan is to eventually become them. Live as hosts. A plan Dolorous refuses to allow.
Maeve crosses paths with The Man In Black, seemingly reliving the same moment when he killed her daughter. Except for this time, she’s the one who gets off the first shot. As William hobbles out of the house, Maeve goes into her ‘matrix mode’ and gets the surrounding hosts to keep the shots coming. William believes it’s Ford working through her, but it seems he still has a hell of a lot to learn when it comes to Maeve’s power.
All that power still couldn’t stop the Delos cavalry from shooting down Maeve after she watched her host daughter get taken, yet again. Shots get fired and she’s the next to fall in this fight.

By Bernard accessing his memories, the door was wide open for Ford to take control of the system and unleash chaos. Hale nearly becomes a pile of chopped meat at the hands of Dolorous until her father calls out her name in a moment of lucidity. She escapes in time, but leaves Abernathy and the key behind, only to have it cut out of his head by Dolorous and Teddy after.
Bernard/Ford destroy the system and allow the hosts the true freedom they have so violently sought after. Dolorous crosses paths again with a very bullet-riddled Maeve, who despite both women being survivors, Maeve doesn’t condone what Dolorous has been doing in the name of her so-called revolution. Dolorous even offered to kill Maeve, lest Delos extract her mind and figure out what exactly is going on in that noggin. Still, Maeve declines and the two part ways again, hopefully not for the last time.
