Casey Lassiter was born and raised in rural West Virginia, and now the Spencer native is set to wear the Miss West Virginia USA 2018 crown to represent her home state when she takes the stage at the Miss USA competition. The 21-year-old succeeded 2017 winner Lauren Roush and aims to become the first Miss West Virginia USA since Jessi Pierson in 2009 to record a Top 10 finish.
Lassiter is a huge fan of West Virginia Mountaineers athletics and has a degree in biochemistry from Marietta College. She has been accepted to pursue a career as a physician assistant in graduate school, where she wants to specialize in gynecology and women’s health care.
Surprisingly, entering the Miss West Virginia USA competition came on a last-minute whim, she told her college’s website.
“Friends and family talked me into doing this pageant,” she said. “It wasn’t until the last minute that I actually got up the nerve to do it, and I’m happy that I did. I’m grateful for my friends and family. They really pushed me to do my best and gave me the confidence to get up there and compete.”
Miss USA takes place Monday, May 21 at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. The pageant will air live on FOX. The Miss Universe pageant will take place at a yet-to-be-determined date.
