Caelyn Miller-Keyes joins a long line of Miss North Carolina USA titleholders to make a big splash in the Miss USA competition. The 21-year-old Asheville native succeeded 2017 winner Katie Coble and will be looking to be the first Miss North Carolina USA Top 10 finisher since 2013. Miss North Carolina USA won the Miss USA competition in 2009 and 2005.
Miller-Keyes, who is former Miss Virginia Teen USA 2013, as a social media consultant in her home state after receiving a degree in broadcast journalism from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Miller-Keyes is a survivor of sexual assault and has dedicated her time “advocate for sexual assault prevention by speaking to high school and college students about the importance of consent.” She has also overcome a life-threatening illness as a child that left her with a 10 percent chance to walk, but she has overcome those odds and is a few steps away from being the next Mis USA.
Miss USA takes place Monday, May 21 at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. The pageant will air live on FOX. The Miss Universe pageant will take place at a yet-to-be-determined date.
