Abigail Pogatshnik is the reigning Miss North Dakota USA 2018 and will take the stage at the upcoming Miss USA competition. The 20-year-old Bismarck native succeeded 2017 winner Raquel Marie Wellentin and is hoping to become the first Miss North Dakota USA to be a Miss USA finalist since Audra Mari in 2014, who went on to be the first runner-up.
Pogatshnik is pursuing her undergraduate degree in psychology and pre-medicine. She volunteers her time with the Northern Lights Students Against Destructive Decisions organization. She was inspired to help the cause after overcoming her own battles with mental illness and self-destruction.
Abigail aims to use her platform as Miss North Dakota USA “to advocate for building a stronger self-esteem and mental health awareness.”
Miss USA takes place Monday, May 21 at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. The pageant will air live on FOX. The Miss Universe pageant will take place at a yet-to-be-determined date.
