Antoinette Robertson is one of the main characters on the Netflix series “Dear White People,” a satirical comedy-drama based on the 2014 film of the same name. , starring in the role of Colandrea ‘Coco’ Conners. It is the second major role for the actress, who previously starred in “Hart of Dixie” as Lynly Hayes.
Coco is one of the students at Winchester University in the Netflix series, majoring in economics and serving as the treasurer for the Coalition of Racial Equality student union.
Robertson got her breakthrough opportunity in a guest-starring role in ABC’s “Zero Hour.”
“Alima, my first guest-starring role in ABC’s Zero Hour, gave me my first recurring role on a major network. Who knew randomly learning a South African accent in acting school would give me a competitive advantage. That experience shaped my thought process about this business,” Robertson said in an interview with the Huffington Post. “I learned that hard work, discipline and a constant pursuit of growth are valuable habits to adopt if excellence and longevity are your goals. ”
Following the roleof Alima, Robertson went on to appear in “Hart of Dixie,” “The Haves and the Have Nots,” and a brief feature role on the FX hit show “Atlanta.”
Robertson was born in the Bronx, New York to two immigrant parents. She spent her childhood in both the United States and Jamaica, attending Jamaica’s Anglican all-girls School before attending Stony Brook University with a Bachelors degree in chemistry. Robertson fine-tuned her acting at the William Esper Studio Conservatory.
