Kelly Marie Tran is one of the new stars of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The 28-year-old actress portrays Rose Tico in Episode XIII.

Born on January 17, 1989, in San Diego, California, Tran’s parents are refugee-immigrants from Vietnam.

Tran, who has been acting since 2011, appeared in a multitude of small projects such as About A Boy, Adam Ruins Everything, and Fall Into Me, Tran got her big break when she was cast as Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Tran says that her character Rose Tico: “I don’t think she is like anyone else that we’ve seen before. Rian has said before when he was writing he wanted to find someone that didn’t feel like they belonged in the universe…I don’t belong.”

Kelly went viral after the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi after she was filmed getting emotional with Daisy Ridley.

I feel strange posting a private moment, like this. But this level of emotion, met with this level of support, is @StarWars encapsulated. pic.twitter.com/lYd1bCcr1V

Tran seems like a wildly charming person, so we have a feeling her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to be the first of many big roles for the Vietnamese-American actress.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, is the second film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, a direct sequel to 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Disney, The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Gwendoline Christie in returning roles, with Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio del Toro joining the cast.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released in theatres on December 15, 2017. A sequel, currently titled Star Wars: Episode IX, is scheduled for December 20, 2019.
