The Stunning Ana de Armas Is One Of Many Reasons You Should Go See Blade Runner This Weekend

But who is Ana de Armas? The world is about to find out, as the gorgeous 29-year-old Cuban actress has a prominent role in Blade Runner 2049, which is shaping up to be a massive global hit.

Born and raised in Havana, Armas decided at age 12 to become an actress and attended the National Theater School of Cuba. de Armas made her acting debut in 2006, portraying the role of Marie on Una rosa de Francia, starring with Alex Gonzalez. At 18, she moved to Spain. Her first major television success there was the Spanish TV series El Internado, in which she starred as Carolina Leal, airing on Antena 3 in 2007. She later continued her career in the film Mentiras y gordas , the TV series Hispania, la leyenda, and Blind Alley.

In 2014, de Armas moved to Los Angeles, and in 2015, she starred in Knock Knock, alongside Keanu Reeves, whom she also co-starred with in the 2016 film Exposed.

de Armas then landed a roll in Hands of Stone, crediting director Jonathan Jakubowicz for “discovering her” since he gave her the first international role in his Robert De Niro boxing epic. de Armas also had a prominent role in Todd Phillips’ War Dogs, playing the moral wife of Miles Teller’s character who sells weapons to the American government. This is the movie where American movie-goers (myself included) began to notice de Armas.

In 2017, de Armas starred in her biggest role yet as Joi in Blade Runner 2049  alongside Ryan Gosling.

So, here’s to hoping de Armas continues her Hollywood ascension — we’ll all be better off.
