On August 26th, bloodsport fans will tune in to watch undefeated boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather take on UFC two-division champion Conor “The Notorious” McGregor in the boxing ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The new Vegas venue seats 18,000, all of which were bought just minutes after tickets went on sale. With the event sold out, tickets quickly made their way to secondary markets such as StubHub and the prices there would make Donald Trump blush.
With more than a month to go, the cheapest tickets on the after market are going to cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. And we’re talking nosebleed sections here for upwards of $2,500 a pop, according to Bloody Elbow. The least expensive mid-tier seats start out at a little more than $5,000 because f— poor people, right?
After that, well, that’s when things start getting downright insane.
If you’re looking to sit ringside at this sporting spectacle, specifically in “Zone A,” you better have a trust fund. Tickets there start at $42,000 and go all the way up to $95,000. Per seat. That’s more than I make in an entire year and I’m suddenly regretting media career.
The McGregor-Mayweather fight is expected to bring in around $500 million in revenue. Yes, a half a billion dollars. Given that, I guess we can’t be TO shocked that seats are approaching $100 grand. But still, the average American home only costs $188,900, so WTF?
