President Donald Trump will be attending just three of the many inauguration balls taking place in Washington D.C. this week. In total, there are 22 inaugural galas being held in honor of the presidency. This week, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced that both President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will be attending just three balls: the Salute to Our Armed Services Ball, the Liberty Ball, and the Freedom Ball. The Liberty and Freedom Balls are both taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on the evening of Friday, January 20. Though they’re in the same building, those are two separate events occurring at the same time on different floors of the convention center
The events are scheduled to have performances by Sam Moore, Tim Rushlow and his Big Band, Silhouettes, The Rockettes, Pelican 212, The Piano Guys, Circus 1903, Cache Olson, Lexi Walker, and Erin Boheme.
Past presidents have usually attended more balls than Trump and Pence plan to. When Bill Clinton was sworn in, he went to 14 galas. When President Obama was elected, Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama went to 10 inaugural balls.
Speaking to Fox and Friends, Trump said of the inauguration balls:
“They had many balls. They had like 10, 12 balls, and we had that scheduled… We have one ball, I think it’s 25,000 people, and they’re going to be bigger… but who wants to have like 10 different balls?”
There is currently no exact time of when the events will be taking place. They will not be attending the DeploraBall, which is a ball hosted by members of the alt-right.
