Get your popcorn ready, because this is (hopefully) going to be the biggest game of the weekend. Two historic franchises face off as the Green Bay Packers travel to Jerry World to take on America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. As good as the Cowboys have been this year, and they’ve been really good, there isn’t a player in the league right now as hot as Aaron Rodgers. Dallas had their way with Green Bay earlier this year as they beat them 30-16 at Lambeau Field, but the playoffs are a different animal, so we should be in store for a good one.
The Packers were sitting at 4-6 on the season through the first 10 games, and really showed no signs of promise, then Rodgers came out and said that he thinks the Pack can run the table, which is exactly what they did, and then went on to beat the Giants last week 38-13. I don’t think Rodgers has ever played this well. Over his last eight games, he’s thrown for 22 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, including three straight games throwing for four touchdowns. He may be without his favorite target Jordy Nelson, who broke two ribs last week, but with how well he’s been playing, it may not matter. The key for Green Bay to win will be their defense making some big plays against a juggernaut of a Dallas offense. Whether they’re capable of doing that or not remains to be seen.
As good as rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot have been for the Cowboys this year, the playoffs are far different from the regular season, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure. Fortunately for them, they play behind the best offensive line in football, which has been a huge reason for their success this season. For the Cowboys to move on to the NFC Championship, they’ll have to do what they’ve done all season and have long offensive drives that lead to touchdowns, which will keep Rodgers and the Packers offense off the field. I may hate the Cowboys with every fiber of my being, but I sure am excited for this game on Sunday.
