Does mail get delivered on New Year’s Day? Unfortunately, this year mail does not get delivered on New Year’s Day. Your mail also won’t be delivered on January 2, because that’s when post offices will be observing New Year’s Day. Post offices are going to be closed because, like the rest of us, mailmen love to party and will be needing to recover from their hangover. Trust me, I know because I smoked a lot of pot with my mailman in college (shout out to the homeboy Steve) and he would tell me all sorts of ways that he and his mailman buddies would get buck wild, which usually involved whiskey.
So, you need something shipped? Well, you’re out of luck because no other carriers will be open on New Year’s Day. Here’s a list of the mail carriers including their holiday schedules so you can ship your stuff before New Year’s Day.
- USPS is CLOSED, holiday schedule
- Fedex is CLOSED, holiday schedule
- UPS is CLOSED, holiday schedule
Some additional holidays on which mail is not delivered include:
- Christmas (December 25)
- Labor Day (First Monday in September)
- Independence Day (July 4)
- President’s Day (The third Monday in February)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Third Monday in January)
- Columbus Day (Second Monday in October)
- Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
Post offices will be open during regular hours on New Year’s Eve but don’t expect your package to be delivered at least until the third of January. Remember mailmen are people too, so be sure to give your mailman a high five, at the very least. They would definitely appreciate that.
