Washington Captials Invited A Women’s Hockey Player From UAE To Their Game And Yup, I’m Tearing Up

Back in November, United Arab Emirates women’s ice hockey player Fatima Al Ali went viral after a video of her showing off her smooth hockey skills went viral. Now, she’s back in the internet headlines, and it’s causing me to have a casual Wednesday cry. People in America are so used to sports that we think of it as a right, but it’s videos like these that remind us that most of the things in our lives our privileges, and not everyone has that privilege.

In partnership with Ethiad Airways,  Monumental Sports Entertainment’s Monumental Global Academies surprised Fatima to be part of Hockey Is For Everyone Month. Via Excelle Sports:

Al Ali was spotted by former NHL player Peter Bondra when he was in the UAE for a couple of days representing the Washington Capitals in an effort to grow the sport. Bondra, and fans everywhere, were blown away by her skills. On Wednesday, the Washington Capitals in a partnership with Ethiad Airways and Monumental Sports and Entertainment Monumental Global Academies surprised Fatima with three things:

  1. Two business class ticks from Abu Dhabi to Washington DC
  2. Two tickets to see the Washington Capitals play (her favorite team)
  3. To be an Ambassasor for Hockey is For Everyone Month (February)

No matter how jaded we become, or how much further this world slips into hell, feel-good-internet videos will always be the shit.
