The University of Texas at Austin boasts an impressive track record in women’s volleyball, as they have won three National Championships over the years. Their first title was an AIAW Championship in 1981, followed by two NCAA Championships in 1988 and 2012.
The Texas Longhorns have captured 23 regular season Conference Championships (13 in the SWC and 10 in the Big 12), made 35 AIAW and NCAA Tournament appearances, and advanced to 13 Final Fours. They also have an active streak of making it to at least the Regional Finals (a.k.a. Elite Eight) in 11 straight seasons.
In 2015, Texas finished as runners up after getting swept 3-0 by the University of Nebraska in the National Championship. In 2016, Texas is back in the Final Four with a chance to avenge last year’s painful defeat to Nebraska. On Thursday, December 15, the 4-seed Longhorns will take on the 1-seed Cornhuskers at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN. The winner of that game will face off against the winner of 2-seed Minnesota vs. 6-seed Stanford for the National Championship on Saturday, December 17 at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
