The First Trailer For Tom Cruise’s ‘The Mummy’ Is Here, Looks Like Every Tom Cruise Movie Ever

via Universal

People have been saying Hollywood has run out of original ideas for years now, but this may be taking reboots and remakes to a new level. The original The Mummy franchise ran from 1999-2008, yet here Hollywood is, already dusting it off.

The Mummy is the first installment in the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, and yes, that is totally a real thing. While the sheer notion of The Mummy already being rebooted is quite hilarious, I have to give credit where it’s due: this trailer looks pretty damn sweet. Ain’t nothing wrong with a classic Tom Cruise action movie. I’ll tell you what else: I’m ALL in on Russell Crowe being cast as Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde. Crowe is still one of the best actors going, so adding an actor of his weight to the franchise certainly helps. Similarly, in the Univeral Monsters Cinematic Universe, Johnny Depp has been cast as The Invisible Man, and Javier Bardem has been selected to play Frankenstein’s monster.

If nothing else, Universal is nailing the casting of this franchise. Maybe it will be dope. We’ll see.

The Mummy is an upcoming American action-adventure supernatural horror film directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts. It is a reboot of The Mummy franchise and the first installment in the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. The film is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017.
