Jeff Fisher Is Actually A Genius

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: the Rams stink. You may have heard this because the Rams haven’t had a winning season since 2003. You may have also heard this because since Jeff Fisher took over, the Rams have gone 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10, and currently sit at 4-8. Despite this, right before their 26-10 loss to the New England Patriots, news broke that the Los Angeles Rams’ coach Jeff Fisher signed a two-year extension.

The Rams are the definition of mediocre and have been for some time. Yet Jeff Fisher just got a two-year contract extension. Jeff Fisher cannot even find his challenge flag, let alone successfully coach a football team, and yet he just got a two-year contract extension. Let me tell you something else about Jeff Fisher: Jeff Fisher is a genius. And let me tell you why Jeff Fisher is a genius: he works for someone far dumber than he is.

Hate on the man all you want, but you have to respect his strategy: work for someone so wildly incompetent that your own shortcomings are misconstrued as strengths. Work for someone who clearly lacks a remote clue of what a realistic goal or expectation should be.

Jeff Fisher may not be a great coach, hell, he may not even be an average coach (he is a terrible coach), but when you’re working for a man who clearly doesn’t even know what a coach is supposed to look like, does it even matter? Jeff Fisher is a genius.
