A real buzzkill of an Oregon woman is apparently not a fan of 1990s one-hit wonders. On Saturday, November 26, she called the police because she got upset that a man was whistling Semisonic’s 1998 classic, “Closing Time.” Here’s the Forest Grove police log’s description of the incident, courtesy of OregonLive.
A verbal altercation occurred after a woman allegedly told a man to “shut up” after he obnoxiously whistled the song “Closing Time” by the band Semisonic near her driveway.
Unbelievable. There’s two types of people in this world: those who like “Closing Time” and those that deserve to get hit by a locomotive. That song is such a jam that I bet if it became our national anthem, even Colin Kaepernick’s annoying ass would stand for it.
Here’s Time with more on this troubling matter.
“It’s not clear if the caller would have been more or less upset if it was a different genre or whether it was just the talent lacking in the whistling,” Herb told TIME, with a chuckle. Whatever the reason (perhaps she just realized what the song was about?), the woman was definitely not a fan of the man’s whistling, and when she told the whistler to “shut up,” a verbal altercation broke out. That’s when she called the police.
While the whistler had moved on by the time police arrived, cops still located him and, according to Herb, he was still whistling “Closing Time.” Police officers spoke to the man who said he was upset that he had been told to shut up. Cops sent him on his way, and according to the notes left by the officer in the police log, “he whistled his way back home.”
I love this guy’s attitude. Let’s just hope that this mystery man will stay positive and not let this whole ordeal get him down. Now’s not the time to give up, now’s the time to whistle even louder. As a wise man once said, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
