Allysa Seely is not only an amazing athlete, she’s also an inspiration. The Glendale, Arizona native had to have her left foot amputated after experiencing neurological problems back in 2009. Seely was diagnosed with Chiari II malformation, basilar invagination, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, but she hasn’t let that stop her from competing.
In 2015, she became a world champion after winning gold in the ITU Elite Paratriathlon World Championships in Chicago, Illinois. And this year, the Arizona State graduate has her eyes on an even bigger prize. On September 11, Seely will race in the paratriathlon in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event consists of 750m (0.47 miles) of swimming, 20km (12.43 miles) of cycling and 5km (3.11 miles) of running, which makes me tired just thinking about it.
The 27-year-old Seely will also be featured in the upcoming ESPN The Magazine Body Issue, which will be released online on July 6th. To hold you over until then, here’s 22 of Allysa Seely’s hottest photos.
