In one of the most bizarre sports injuries of all-time, Geno Smith got his jaw broke by IK Enemkpali in a locker room altercation during training camp for the 2015 season. With Smith on the mend, Ryan Fitzpatrick somehow managed to not totally suck. Fitzpatrick ended up leading the Jets to a 10-6 record with 3,901 passing yards and 33 total touchdowns, holding down the starting QB spot even when Smith got healthy.
This season, Fitzpatrick turned back into a pumpkin. Everyone’s favorite Harvard grad has thrown only five TDs while leading the league with a whopping 11 picks. Sitting at a highly disappointing 1-5, the Jets opted to make a change at quarterback and insert Smith into the starting lineup.
Here’s what Brandon Marshall had to say about the move.
That’s amazing. Of all the tired sports clichés Marshall could’ve used, he went with that one. There’s no way in hell that was an accident either. I’m not entirely sure why Marshall would want to bust his new QB’s balls in the media, but trying to figure out why Brandon Marshall does what he does is a fool’s errand.
I just wish that Marshall didn’t stop there and kept rolling with lines like that. He could’ve dropped the classic Mike Tyson gem of, “Everyone has a plan ’till they get punched in the mouth.” He could’ve said that they are going to go out there and hit the Ravens in the mouth this week. He could’ve talked about playing smashmouth football. The possibilities are literally endless.
I guess Wes Welker will remain the GOAT when it comes to puns for his press conference where he repeatedly made fun of Rex Ryan’s foot fetish.
