You may or may not have heard that a frightening number of clowns have been spotted hiding in the woods down south (North Carolina and South Carolina), trying to lure children into the forest with offers of money and candy. I have read no less than four different accounts of clown sightings and even warnings from police and local authorities.
Considering how scary that sounds, we had been hoping for some time that these rumors and stories came from bored kids who wanted the attention.
But now after an arrest in Kentucky, it looks like those stories could have actually been for real. Police in Barbourville, KY have arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Martin, who was caught wearing a creepy AF clown outfit on Friday night. Yes, that’s him in the photo above. Here’s his mug shot, in case you need proof that he’s really a person and not some demonspawn sent from hell to give you nightmares and stabs to the gut.
But you know what’s messed up? That this guy was caught in Kentucky, not in North Carolina or South Carolina, the states where most of the sightings have been reported. Either Jonathan has been putting some serious miles on his car or there are still a ton of creepos hiding in the Carolina woods.
For his part, Martin was charged with “wearing a mask in public and disorderly conduct.”
Here’s an explanation from the Kentucky police as to why he was arrested. “Dressing as a clown and driving, walking or standing in public can create a dangerous situation for you and others. While dressing up is not, in and of itself against the law, doing so in public and thereby creating an unnecessary sense of alarm is illegal.”
