The NFC South is a division that was dominated by the Carolina Panthers last season. With Week 3 of the 2016 season now here, the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints know that they have their work cut out for them with both teams having at least a loss already on their slate when the two teams play on Monday night. Atlanta comes in with a 1-1 record while New Orleans has a 0-2 record and wants to finally get a win. Here is a look at the matchup.
The Falcons beat the Oakland Raiders 35-28 on the road last week. Matt Ryan has been lighting up the scoreboard with 730 passing yards and five touchdowns early in the season. Julio Jones has nine catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns. The run game has been a split between Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman with Freeman leading the team with 113 rushing yards while Coleman has 68 rushing yards and 120 receiving yards on seven catches. The defense has been giving up a lot of points which has led to Ryan needing to throw a ton. This game isn’t going to be any different facing Drew Brees.
The Saints lost 16-13 at the New York Giants and have lost their two games by a combined four points this season. Brees has passed for 686 yards and five touchdowns while looking the way of Willie Snead and Brandin Cooks a ton. Snead has 14 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns while Cooks has 13 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Mark Ingram has struggled running the ball with 88 yards on 21 carries but hasn’t had a lot of chances. The defense played well last week against the Giants and needs to show much more this week against a talented Atlanta team.
