The AFC East is a place where the New England Patriots have reigned supreme for more than a decade now. The Miami Dolphins have been trying to get over the hump over their division rivals without much success. The two teams will meet up on Sunday afternoon in Week 2 of the season with both teams going in different directions after the first week. The Patriots are still without Tom Brady with his suspension and this may be Miami’s chance to get their division rivals. Here is a look at the matchup.
The Dolphins lost a hard-fought 12-10 game to the Seattle Seahawks last week. Ryan Tannehill threw for 186 yards in the loss as Miami fought to get anything going against the tough Seattle defense. Arian Foster didn’t have the best opening game for his new team with just 38 yards rushing but did add 62 receiving yards to lead the team. Jarvis Landry did have seven catches and is clearly Tannehill’s favorite target. The defense looked great last week in slowing down Russell Wilson. Can they do it again against the Patriots though during their second straight road game to begin the season?
The Patriots won 23-21 on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. Jimmy Garoppolo was solid in his starting debut, throwing for 264 yards and a touchdown while completing over 70% of his passes. Julian Edelman had seven catches for 66 yards and with no Rob Gronkowski possibly again this week; Edelman will be a major key to the New England offense. The defense caused Arizona trouble last week and now faces Tannehill, who isn’t as good as Carson Palmer. This is a great chance for the Patriots to win their second straight without Brady.
