As the 2016 season opens up, the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks go into the year with chips on their shoulder after not succeeding the way they wanted last year. The two teams face off in the Pacific Northwest in Week 1 and with that comes a battle between Ryan Tannehill and the Seahawks defense. Seattle wants to go make their third Super Bowl appearance in the last four years while Miami needs to show that they can be a playoff team. Here is a look at the matchup.
It was quite the struggle for the Miami offense last season with a substandard run game and Tannehill having his own issues passing and putting points on the board. Arian Foster signed in the offseason to be the Dolphins’ lead back and if he can get back to his MVP-type numbers, Miami will have made a wise decision. Foster is an injury risk and could get stuffed in this game early and often by a Seahawks defense that only gave up 17.3 points a game last season. Miami’s path won’t get any easier next week so sneaking a road win out here would be huge.
The Seahawks are a different team going into 2016, with no Marshawn Lynch and an injured Thomas Rawls. Russell Wilson was beginning to open the offense up late in the regular season in 2015 and will be expected to do that all the way this coming year including this game. Wilson will need to have a big game for the Seahawks to come away with the win, even if the defense has another one of their signature days. It is a chance for the young quarterback to prove why he is a Super Bowl champion and someone Seattle can depend on for years to come.
