Vilmarie Mojica is a 30-year-old Olympic volleyball player representing Puerto Rico at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The 5’10” setter is one of the team’s best players, and she’s lead them to several medals over her career.
Puerto Rico won bronze at the Pan-American Cup in 2009, two silvers (2010 and 2014) and a bronze (2006) at Central American and Caribbean Games, and a silver at the NORCECA Championship in 2009. She’s also won several individual awards, including being named “Best Setter” at the 2007 and 2009 NORCECA Championships and the 2009 Pan-American Cup.
Vilmarie made her Olympic debut in 2016, and it hasn’t been going very well for her and her teammates so far. They were placed in Pool B, and they are currently tied for last place with Italy. Puerto Rico is 0-2 after getting swept 3-0 twice by the U.S. and Serbia. They’ll begin their quest to try to turn things around in a matchup with China on Wednesday, August 10.
