Barbora Hermannová and Markéta Sluková are representing the Czech Republic in beach volleyball at the 2016 Olympics. This is the first Olympic appearance for the 25-year-old Barbora, but it’s the second Olympic appearance for Markéta. The 28-year-old previously competed at the 2012 Olympics in London with partner Kristýna Kolocová. The duo had a nice run, making it all the way to the quarter-finals before getting eliminated by eventual silver medalists Jennifer Kessy and April Ross of the U.S to finish in fifth place.
Barbora and Markéta were placed in Pool B in Rio, and they’ve gotten off to a rough start in group play. On Saturday, August 6, they lost 2-1 to Ágatha Bednarczuk and Bárbara Seixas of Brazil. They’ll need to turn things around in a hurry if they are going to advance to the round of 16. Their next match will be against Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernández of Spain on Monday, August 8 at 9:00.
