Paige Selenski is a 26-year-old field hockey player from Shavertown, Pennsylvania. The former University of Virginia standout plays forward, and she’s a two-time Pan American Games champion, bringing home the gold in 2011 and 2015. But after the 2015 Pan American Games, Selenski was forced to undergo surgery for a nasty hamstring injury. Her hamstring tore from the bone, and she was sidelined for five months.
Selenski has since returned to action for the U.S. national field hockey team, but the 2012 Olympian was named an alternate for the 2016 Olympics. I guess the coaches feel that she isn’t up to full strength, which is a bummer of epic proportions.
While it sucks that she didn’t make the official roster, it’s still amazing that she made it this far after suffering such a major injury. She’s also so gorgeous that she might psyche out the other countries just by standing on the sidelines in Rio. Anybody who says that you need to actually play to impact a game clearly hasn’t seen Paige Selenski’s abs.
