Teen Searching For Pokémon On Pokémon Go Stumbles Upon Dead Body

A 19-year-old Wyoming resident was looking to find Pokémon near a river on the augmented reality app Pokémon Go when she came across a dead body at about 8:40 a.m. “”I was trying to get a Pokémon from a natural water resource,” Shayla Wiggins, the Riverton, Wyoming resident who came across the body, told local news outlet County 10. “I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water. I had to take a second look and I realized it was a body.”

Pokémon Go, developed by Nintendo and Google offshoot Niantic, was released on iOS and Android this Wednesday and has created a lot of buzz. The game encourages its users to find Pokemon that are scattered around real-world towns and cities, and using bluetooth alerts them when Pokémo nare nearby.

Wiggins told the New York Daily News that she doesn’t often go to the town of 10,000’s Wind River, but she went there yesterday morning in search of a Pikachu knowing that Pokémon are often found near real-life natural water sources.

Wiggins was shaken up after making the discovery. “It’s heartbreaking that I’m getting famous and he’s unknown,” she said.

Detectives told Wiggins that they thought the body had been there for less than 24 hours. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office released a statement that said, “The death appears to be accidental in nature and possibly that of a drowning.” It is currently under investigation.
