Best Xbox One Games: Top 5 Best New Games Coming Out In July 2016

Best Xbox One Games July 2016

Xbox One gamers will get to choose from among a strong mix of retro throwbacks, anticipated sequels and highly-anticipated indies in June. Leading the pack is The Banner Saga 2, a turn-based RPG that is releasing on consoles after a blazingly hot release on PC. There’s also a remastered compilation of the two mainline last-gen Batman: Arkham games, the stirring Metroidvania title Song of the Deep and a new Ghostbusters game to look forward to.

Here’s a look at the best Xbox One games coming out in July:

5. Ghostbusters

Publisher: Activision
Developer: FireForge Games
Release date: July 15

Just in time for the new movie, this is a top-down adventure with a brand new group of Ghostbusters. You’ll traverse the city and take down waves of hilarious apparitions to make things safer for the unaware public. If you were a fan of the 2011 cult hit Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, you’ll be right at home here.

4. Batman: Return to Arkham

Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Developer: Rocksteady Studios
Release date: TBA

If you played through the spectacular Batman: Arkham Knight and are yearning to check out the first two games of the trilogy but lack the old consoles, this anthology will be the way to experience both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Everything from the visuals to sound has been rebuilt from the ground up to look better on the Xbox One than it ever had on the Xbox 360.

3. MX vs. ATV: Supercross Encore

Publisher: Nordic Games
Developer: Rainbow Studios
Release date: July 19

There has been no lack of racing games on Xbox One, but few have focused on the dirt-spewing rally corner of the speed world. This budget-prices game looks to correct that trend, delivering dozens of vehicles and modifications to tinker with, as well as loads of tracks on which to trade paint and broken windows.

2. Song of the Deep

Publisher: GameTrust Games
Developer: Insomniac Games
Release date: July 12

An exploration-centered Metroidvania-style game with the charm of Child of Light, Insomniac’s indie game stars a young woman who searches for her missing dad. You hunt underwater mazes, gathering up items that let you return and unlock new pathways that were blocked. It’s an unlikely move for the before-now action-oriented Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive developer, and it will be intriguing to see what Insomniac does in a new direction.

1. The Banner Saga 2

Publisher: Versus Evil
Developer: Stoic Studio
Release date: July 1

Building off the success of the original indie smash, this Viking-themed tactical RPG drew raves after it was released on PC in April. Bolstered by stirring turn-based battles and hand-drawn characters, backgrounds animations, the effort is part of a planned trilogy. Few single-player experiences can match the tension and replayability of this franchise.
