College World Series Results: Coastal Carolina vs. Arizona Final Score & Recap

Coastal Carolina University is currently battling the University of Arizona in the College World Series. It’s been a thrilling series so far, and today’s matchup should be a barnburner. Arizona took Game 1 by a score of 3-0, but Coastal Carolina came roaring back with a 5-4 victory in Game 2. With the series tied at 1-1, this set up a winner-take-all Game 3 for all the marbles.

Today’s game started out as a pitcher’s duel, as both Coastal’s Andrew Beckwith and Arizona’s Bobby Dalbec were dealing. It was 0-0 until Coastal was able to capitalize on some Arizona mistakes and bust things open in the top of the 6th inning. With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, Arizona 2nd baseman Cody Ramer made 2 errors on the same play to give Coastal a 2-0 lead. The very next batter for Coastal was G.K. Young, and he launched a 2-run homer to extend their lead to 4-0.

Arizona would chip into Coastal’s lead in the bottom half of the inning, as Jared Olivia came through with a 2-out single with the bases loaded to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

Dalbec’s final line: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K

With the score still 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th, Coastal’s Alex Cunningham found himself in a jam after walking 2 batters. But with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he was able to get Ryan Haug to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Cunningham had a quick 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 8th. We’ll head to the last inning with Coastal holding a 4-2 lead.

Arizona’s Cody Deason retired Coastal in order in the top of the 9th. Coastal will take a 4-2 lead into the bottom half of the inning, and they are now 3 outs away from winning the College World Series.

Cunningham will come back out for the bottom of the 9th to try to close it out.
