Deschutes Brewery’s Mirror Pond Pale Ale is What’s on Tap

This week a very popular craft brewery from the west coast made serious headlines when they announced they were expanding and opening an east coast brewing facility. And after reading the news I immediately thought, “I have not had any of their beers in a while so let me go out and grad a case or two.” This weekend Deschutes Brewery’s Mirror Pond Pale Ale is What’s on Tap.

Deschutes is a brewing company that really does one thing well and that is brew great tasting, true to style beers. Basically if any of their beers are on tap, or available, get’em! Mirror Pond is a great alternative to anyone who is looking for subtle IPA flavors but does not want to go all in with an IPA. With its appearance of being more ambery than light golden or hazy yellow, Mirror Pond gives off the impression that it is going to be “heavier” than what one would expect with pale ale. However, the malt and hop aromas of floral and citrus dispels any non-pale-ale notion. Mirror Pond is a somewhat malt forward pale ale but with the subtle cascade hops’ flavors of floraly citrus throughout its certainly well balanced. That finishes very clean and crisp.

With an ABV of only 5% Mirror Pond is a perfect outdoor spring and summer pale ale that is as enjoyable as it is sessionable. This weekend I am pairing Mirrio Pond with grilled Mahi that has a blackened rub to intermingle the spiciness of the rub with citrus flavors of the hops.
