The time has come for the biggest game of the year with Super Bowl 50 on February 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The golden anniversary game features the 17-1 Carolina Panthers facing the 14-4 Denver Broncos. Carolina will look to become just the third team to finish 18-1 and win a Super Bowl while Denver will attempt to send Peyton Manning likely into the sunset with his second Super Bowl title. The last time the two teams played was November 11, 2012 with Manning and the Broncos going to Carolina and leaving with a 36-14 victory.
Carolina advanced to this game with a 49-15 thrashing of Arizona in the NFC Championship Game. The Panthers have been a dominant team all season long and appear to be hitting their stride going into the biggest game of their season. Cam Newton passed for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns and ten interceptions during the regular season while finding Greg Olsen 77 times for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.
During the postseason, Newton is 35-for-50 for 496 yards and three touchdowns while Olsen has 12 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Stewart rushed for nearly 1,000 yards during the regular season and has added 189 yards on the ground during the postseason with two touchdowns. The Carolina defense has been strong all season long led by Luke Kuechly and Josh Norman.
Denver held on to beat New England 20-18 in the AFC Championship Game to advance to their second Super Bowl in the last three years. The Broncos have had their issues this season but still have the top defense in the whole NFL. Peyton Manning had a rough regular season because of injury with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions while passing for 2,249 yards. Demaryius Thomas had 105 catches for 1,304 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Denver pass game.
In the postseason though, Manning is 38-for-69 for 398 yards and two touchdowns while Emmanuel Sanders is leading the receivers with ten catches for 147 yards. C.J. Anderson has been looking solid on the ground with 144 yards rushing on 31 carries. The key to Denver’s success is their defense though since the offense is only averaging 22.2 points a game. Von Miller will be a major part of the puzzle to whether or not the Broncos win or not.
