Matthew Hutchinson, SUNY Geneseo Student, Killed In Apparent Double Murder-Suicide

Matthew Hutchinson SUNY Geneseo

Matthew Hutchinson, a 24-year-old SUNY Geneseo student and hockey player from Vancouver, Canada, was found dead in a bedroom in Geneseo, NY. His body was discovered alongside Colin Kingston, 24, and another SUNY Geneseo athlete, Kelsey Annese, 21. It’s too early to say for sure, but there are indications that Matthew was one victim of a double murder-suicide.

The Buffalo News states that police dispatch received a call from a man who said that “his son called from an unknown number and stated that he murdered his girlfriend… and he’s also going to kill himself.”

The SUNY Geneseo community is still in shock and all three involved in the tragedy were well-known for their contributions to the city. Matthew was a senior defenseman for the SUNY Geneseo Knights Men’s Hockey team who had just joined the Geneseo Volunteer Fire Department. He had spent last summer working for the BC Wildfire Branch volunteer fire department. According to one source, he was also a father.

Very sad story all around. Stay tuned for more details on the tragedy, but our hearts go out to all of those involved.
