Bethany Harris, West Alabama Cheerleader, Dead In Car Crash

Bethany Harris cheerleader

Bethany Harris, a West Alabama University freshman cheerleader and Phi Mu sorority sister, died tragically in a car accident on December 28th. She was only 19 years old.

According to police investigators, it is believed that Bethany lost control of her Scion TC on Interstate 20/59 and crashed into a tree. Because first responders couldn’t find the driver, they initially believed the she had left the scene. Sadly they then discovered that Bethany hadn’t been wearing her seatbelt, and that her body was thrown from the car.

To her friends and family, Bethany will be remembered as an extremely helpful and kind person. In 2011, a local news crew interviewed Bethany and her friend for some charitable work they were doing with children in need.

She continued her love of life and giving by joining the West Alabama University cheerleading squad and Phi Mu sorority. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bethany’s loved ones.

Please, please take the one extra second to buckle your seatbelt in cars.

Here is the statement from West Alabama University:

“She has many friends at UWA and will be greatly missed by the campus community, throughout which she was known and will be remembered for her dedication in the classroom and on the sidelines of Tiger athletics as a cheerleader. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bethany’s family and close friends during this devastating time.”
