Goose Island Bourbon County

As the weather gets colder I definitely look forward to drinking darker craft beers; anything from malty brown ales to stouts and porters. This weekend I am enjoying one of the most sought-after craft beers of the year that goes perfectly with the cold weather. This weekend, Goose Island Beer Company’s Bourbon County Brand Stout is What’s on Tap!

Released every year on Black Friday, many locations, even grocery stores, have a special release party for this brew that is consistently rated as one of the highest rated beer, not to mention stout, every year. Aged in bourbon barrels for at least a year this stout has everything I look for in a dark beer. From the black color to the aroma combination of bourbon and vanilla this stout is amazing. With each sip there is an interplay of different flavors – bourbon and vanilla upfront with a subtle smokiness throughout while finishing a little sweet. To accompany those flavors there is a slight “booziness” throughout the taste but despite the beer being 14.3% ABV the booziness is not as overpowering as one might expect.

Bourbon County Brand Stout is the perfect after dinner beer / beer to just sip by itself and enjoy. But if you are thinking of pairing it with a meal think meat, turkey, grilled beef or chicken. I love this beer with a prime rib or anything smoked. Winter is coming so crack open some dark beers and enjoy.

Cheers!
