Will Smith Is Trying To Reboot The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Fresh Prince of Bel Air reboot is coming, and it is being produced by none other than the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. It’s pretty much at the top of our list of “things we didn’t know we wanted but now need.”

A staple of 90’s sitcoms, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is one of the most endearing comedies from that decade. This is where Will Smith, one of the only legitimate black leading men in Hollywood (you can throw Denzel Washington in there), got his start in acting, own his way to becoming one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood over the last two decades.

There was a time when no one was hotter than Will Smith. For about 10 years, from 1998 to 2008, Will Smith could do no wrong, churning out blockbuster after blockbuster. However, as of late, Smith has lost a little bit of the luster he had in the early and mid 2000’s. Since the end of 2008 (the year of Hancock and Seven Pounds), Smith has starred in four movies: Men in Black 3 (that movie with that old white dude), After Earth (that movie with his kid), Focus (that movie with Margot Robbie), and Winter’s Tale (that movie with… wait… WTF is Winter’s Tale?!?). Crap right? I know.

Well, Will Smith fans, the tides might have finally turned back in the Fresh Prince’s favor. Fresh of the heels of the release of the AMAZING Suicide Squad trailer, and the news that he will be starring in two new Bad Boys sequels, comes another sign that Smith might be getting his act together: Smith’s production shingle, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a “present-day family comedy that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of Fresh Prince”.

While Smith is (unfortunately) only on board as a producer, it’s nice to see one of my favorite childhood actors get back on the right track. Besides, how sick does Suicide Squad look? Gotta admit, Slick Willy looks pretty bada** with that shaved head of his.
