It goes beyond saying that I love craft beer. But even more than loving craft beer I love trying new beers that are of similar styles but completely different tastes and flavors. This weekend I am drinking a brew that is of a style that I love, Imperial IPA, but yet a brew with a very unique flavor profile and palate impact. This weekend Ska Brewing Company’s Decadent Imperial IPA is What’s on Tap!
Decadent Imperial IPA pours like a traditional Imperial IPA in its hazy deep orange color. And the aroma is full of sweet citrusy fruit. However where Decadent is different from most Imperial IPAs is the immediate flavor explosion of the citrus and hops it has on the palate. Then added to citrus and hops is a nice combination of sweetness and malt. Decadent is definitely a forward brew in that the IPA flavors are upfront rather than blended throughout or on the backend. On the backend there is definitely a sticky bitterness that lingers on the palate that is very welcoming.
The big bold flavors of Decadent Imperial IPA lend itself well to big, bold, spicy food. This weekend I am grilling chicken rubbed with a homemade Jamaican jerk rub. I am grilling the chicken low and slow so the chicken will be crispy on the outside but moist and juicy on the inside. With the spiciness of jerk rub balancing the Decadent IPA perfectly.
