Michael Jordan’s Message To Kobe Bryant About Passing Him On Scoring List Was Simple

Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant

There have been plenty of comparisons before Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant over the years. Recently, Bryant passed Jordan for No. 3 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and the two had a conversation about the achievement. Jordan’s message to Bryant was very simple. “Go get Karl (Malone)” is what Bryant told the Chicago Sun-Times Jordan said.

There is quite a gap in between Bryant and Malone with over 4,600 points between the two but it is good to see that Jordan wants Bryant to go out and try to get to No. 2 on the list. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record is very safe though and shooting for the No. 2 spot is a much more achievable position. Bryant was in Chicago on Christmas night to play the Bulls but sat out the game because of soreness.

The biggest key to whether or not Bryant actually gets to Malone is his health and how long he wants to spend on the court with a bad Lakers team right now. He would need to average 33.8 points a game if he played every game the rest of this season and every game next season just to tie Malone. That likely isn’t going to happen but Bryant knows that he has Jordan on his side in his efforts to pull it off though.
