The East Coast is being blasted by a November winter storm, Christmas commercials are already on TV, and stations are starting to play Christmas music, so what better way to kick off the Holiday season than drinking and offering one of my patented beer reviews of an excellent craft beers? This weekend Full Sail’s Wassail is What’s on Tap!
Winter Warmers provide a great balance of malt and hops while also maintaining a relatively high ABV, making them perfect for drinking during holiday parties and family gatherings. Wassail’s aroma has a great bready malt aroma with just a hint of citrusy hops. There is a slightly sweetness to the beer as well as some winter spices – allspice maybe – but overall, very inviting.
Wassail’s malt and hop balance is interesting because this truly is a malt forward beer with the hops in a secondary. Combined with the frontend bready malt profile is a great mixture of nutty earthy notes with sweet chocolate and caramel (might also be a hint of toffee). All of which are followed by the hops and the backend touch of bitterness and lingering notes of holiday spices.
This weekend I am staying the Hell of out the cold, watching football, drinking Full Sail’s Wassail, and eating chili! Nothing beats ground beef, chili beans, and jalapeño peppers, all in a thick chili sauce. Some spiciness, beer with great flavor and a solid hop malt combination.
Despite the cold, this weekend is looking good! Cheers to the weekend and to Full Sail for making the start of the Holiday season a bit more bearable.
Cheers!
