The retirement of Derek Jeter felt like the passing of a Pope or the funeral of a former president. The team and its fans seemed to be in a constant state of mourning for their beloved shortstop. TV was filled with tributes and goodbyes including a Nike commercial filled with celebrities literally tipping their hat to the guy. Keith Olbermann dedicated a big chunk of his show just to hate on the guy. Will Ferrell, however, should win an award for his tribute to the late retired ball player.
Ferrell’s Funny or Die released a new video of the movie star wearing a Boston Red Sox simply staring into a camera and chanting Jeter’s name as if he’s sitting in the cheap seats and trying to psyche out the slugger from the stands. That’s literally the entire video. It’s just four, full minutes of Ferrell staring down the camera as if he’s competing in a staring contest with a camera and screaming at the top of his lungs how much he hates/will miss The Captain. This is Ferrell we’re talking about, a man who could make even the most jaded emo laugh just by staring deep into his eyes and reading the dictionary to them. So you know it’s going to be funny…

Frankly, we can’t think of a more fitting send off for Jeter. You just know he misses hearing the taunting chants of his name fall from the mouths of angry Red Sox fans.
