Courtney Love’s Isolated Vocals Will Put a Hole in Your Soul [VIDEO]

Courtney Love Isolated Vocals Guitar

Punk rock isn’t supposed to be “good” in any kind of professional or technical sense, right? It’s all about raw slop and ragged passion and the screaming power of an unbridled musical moment. Courtney Love has long promoted those notions–all while issuing painstakingly-crafted major label albums that are the result of round-the-clock efforts by the slickest writers, producers, and studio musicians that corporate money can buy.

Now we have an isolated vocal track of Courtney fronting a version of Hole at a New York club in 2010. This finally showcases the accused dilettante diva in a light that’s actually kind of a raw punk setting. Punk is not kind to Courtney, as you’ll hear for yourself right now…

And for jolting side-by-side comparison purposes, here’s the same clip with the full band mix…

And furthermore–for sheer mockery–here’s the original “Celebrity Skin” music video that MTV played a whole lot back in 1998…

Courtney Love is one of rock’s most officially honored figures. For two long decades now, our wise cultural overlords have vehemently insisted that the addled widow is an important figure in rock. That included Rolling Stone putting Courtney on the cover of their first “Women of Rock” issue alongside Tina Turner and Madonna. Never mind that Courtney had only issued two albums (only one of which could ride a dead songwriter’s cult to anything like a decent profit). From there, the media fed us Courtney hype like her  critical raves for a demanding performance in The People vs. Larry Flynt. See, she was playing the junkie ex-stripper wife of a really famous and profoundly more talented husband. At least that was smart casting.

So the next time someone suggests Courtney Love is a creative force to be reckoned with, respond by perfectly imitating her anti-vocalizing in this now-infamous video. All you have to do is think realistically about Courtney Love for a moment, assume the Edvard Munch “Scream” position, and let fly. How have we all been able to live through this?
