Congress About To Put More Pressure On NCAA

NCAA Congressional Investigation

There’s been a growing amount of scrutiny coming from Congress towards the NCAA–and it appears that Washington is ready to take action towards issues involving student-athletes. A recent ESPN podcast had Rep. Tony Cardenas saying that NCAA officials should be warned that action is coming to address inequities. There are bills arriving in Congress that would force colleges to make good on scholarships, in addition to lot of recent talk about unionizing student athletes.

The vote coming in August that would allow the five power conferences to have more power. This may lengthen the gap between big schools and small schools, as well. The NCAA has always been slow in making changes and addressing other problems. Congress has enough clout to get things moving in the organization, though. The two powerful entities seem to be on a collision course, and that collision appears to be coming sooner than later.
