Mena Suvari on “Chicago Fire” [SEE HER TONIGHT]

See Her Tonight

Mena Suvari on Chicago Fire

(10:00 PM EST, NBC)

NBC doesn’t have to convince the See Her Tonight column to keep checking out their shows, but they have a harder time with America in general–which is why the network is really into their budding franchise of Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire. Part of that strategy is to keep bringing in interesting names in recurring roles. That’s given us gals like Sophia Bush, Teri Reeves, and Lauren German. Now we’re adding Mena Suvari to the roll call, even if this blonde doesn’t quite have the star power to count as stunt casting.

That wasn’t always the case, though. A few lucky guys caught on to Mena Suvari early with her turns in The Rage: Carrie 2 and The Slums of Beverly Hills, but Mena really broke through as part of the exciting young cast that excited Hollywood with 1999’s American Pie. That was an unusually big year for Mena, though, as she quickly followed that role with an iconic turn in American Beauty as the embodiment of Young Lust. At least, as far as Kevin Spacey’s character was concerned.

Mena briefly became a real big deal, although she soon flopped with the lousy Loser and the underrated Sugar & Spice. By 2004, Mena was trying to reignite her career with a turn as an artsy rebel on Six Feet Under–which mostly consisted of her character teasing a lesbian relationship with Lauren Ambrose that never really happened.

Mena’s always kept working, though, and she’s sure done better than some other American Pie alumni. It wasn’t any surprise when she ended up in American Horror Story, and Mena looks set to ignite some drama in her Chicago Fire role, too. Now enjoy these career-spanning shots that sum up why so many guys still keep checking in on Mena’s body of work…
