Happy Birthday Lebowski: Best GIFs To Celebrate The Day Of The Dude

What a week it’s gotta be for the stoners of the world. Weed was decriminalized in yet another city, it’s Frozen Food Day, National Oreo Day, and, perhaps our favorite, it’s The Day of the Dude, aka the 16th anniversary of when The Big Lebowski came out on March 6, 1998.

16 years ago on this glorious day,  the absolutely genius duo of The Coen brothers unsheathed The Big Lebowski onto the world, starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. Somehow, the movie strangely only grossed 5 million during its opening weekend and eventually did only slightly better than breaking even. However, like much fine art of the world, the Lebowski‘s reputation has since improved. And, that’s a bit of an understatement. More than just a film, The Big Lebowski is now a cult classic. You don’t need to look further than all the awesome stuff surrounding the movie.

There are Lebowski Festivals everywhere from Kentucky to California. There are thousands of followers of Dudeism, which is a Lebowski-based religion. There have been tons of books written about the movie.

It’s truly not just a movie anymore, it’s a way of life.

Today we honor The Big Lebowski with some of the flicks’ best GIFs. In fact, there’s so many damn GIFs from this movie that you could practically reassemble the entire movie in GIF form–if you were so inclined to do so.

Have a great “Day of the Dude,” and enjoy a White Russian, a nice spliff, and try to not get your Johnson cut off by any nihilists out there.
