Metallica & Lang Lang Release “One”

In the aftermath of and the media flourish surrounding the recent Grammy Awards, Metallica & Lang Lang have delivered “One (Awards Show Rehearsal Version)” to the masses. The song was recorded on January 23rd at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, CA during practices for the 56th annual Grammy Awards and in Metallica’s storied reputation of generosity, a portion of proceeds earned by the song will benefit MusiCares. The MusiCares Foundation, Inc., established in 1989, organized in the interest of musicians in financial, personal, or medical crisis. The foundation’s programs include emergency assistance, outreach activities, addiction recovery, and senior housing.

While at first glance Lang Lang and Metallica appear to be an odd pairing, the union is vaguely reminiscent of the group’s collaboration album with Lou Reed before his passing, “Lulu.” Metallica and Lang Lang’s performance of the song at the ceremony was met with mixed reviews, impressing many of Lang Lang’s audience but drawing the ire of die-hard Metallica fans who suffer from “Demo-itis,” an acute affliction that prevents listeners from enjoying updated versions of classic recordings.
