Universal Says `Dumb and Dumber To’ Will Hit Theaters um, When?

Universal Pictures has announced a November 14, 2014, release date for Dumb and Dumber To. The new sequel reunites Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne–the lovable dim bulbs who took a road trip in the first pic to return a briefcase full of money to its obviously impoverished owners. Now they’re back on the road looking for a kid that Harry never knew he had.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly agreed to sit in the director’s chairs after first saying no to letting the movie be made and then saying, sure you can make this, but without us. Universal says they’re releasing Dumb and Dumber To in the holiday season to counterprogram the usual Oscar-worthy movies that come out at the end of the year.

Dumb and Dumber To will also feature Laurie Holden from The Walking Dead, along with Rob Riggle and a cameo from The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence.

Speaking of The Hunger Games–Universal, in its infinite wisdom, will be releasing Dumb and Dumber To the week after the new The Hunger Games installment opens. It will also be up against the new Brad Pitt World War II movie Fury. Smart move. Dumb and Dumber was a huge hit in 1994. It’s prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, not so much. The first picture took in $250 million worldwide. The prequel–without Carrey or Daniels–took in $40 million. The accountants are going by the law of diminishing returns and saying a threequel will make about seven bucks.
