“Star Wars: Episode VII” To Be Released December 18, 2015: Did You Get The Casting Memo?

So now we’ve learned that Star Wars: Episode VII will be released on December 18th, 2015. Yes, it’s official. But are you the kind of person they need to star in the movie? Walt Disney Studios has put out a worldwide casting call for good-looking actors for a major movie. The studio doesn’t say outright that they’re casting Stormtroopers, but it looks like the mouse is looking for actors for the new Star Wars movie. Audition notices have gone up in papers all over the world.

The open call wants “handsome” actors and “beautiful” actresses to play a “street smart and strong” orphaned girl named “Rachel” and a young man named “Thomas.”  Rachel is in her late teens, and she’s “always a survivor, never a victim.” Thomas is a “smart capable” man in his late teens or early 20s  who grew up “without a father’s influence, He “shows courage when it is needed.”

If this is a prequel, doesn’t that kind of describe Luke Skywalker? Darth Vader was, at best, a deadbeat dad. We don’t know what the future version of leaving a baby on a doorstep will be, but where did they find Princess Leia? Is there a smarter or more capable man in the universe than Luke Skywalker?

Or maybe Thomas could be Han Solo. He’s a pretty capable guy. We don’t know much about his father. The casting notice also says he “understands the absurdities in life and understands you can’t take life too seriously.” That sounds like Han. The part is for people of all ethnicities, including “bi and multi-racial” actors. Han Solo and Luke Skywalker both grew up to be white guys, but I don’t think Disney is casting Yoda here.

The new Star Wars sequel is supposed to be a prequel and these are the three biggest parts in it. Whoever gets these roles will be stars of a major proportion.

Casting calls like this have launched some major careers. Years ago, when King of the Gypsies was casting there were radio spots saying the studio was looking for a young, unknown star of tomorrow. When the movie came out, it starred a young unknown actor named Eric Roberts and look at him now. Okay, well look at his sister, Julia Roberts. Or better yet, look at the Harry Potter kids. Yeah. That’s best.
