Kerry Washington ON SNL: “What Does My Girl Say?” Wins The Show [VIDEO]

Last night’s Saturday Night Live got off to a slow start, but the parody of Ylvis’ “What Does The Fox Say?” (officially titled “The Fox”) really made an impact–probably because it makes more sense than the original. For those who’ve missed it, Ylvis (who, to be fair, is a comic duo) became an internet sensation by writing a sharp techo tune with a tuneful bridge. Then the comics made it really memorable with nonsensical lyrics about the noises made by animals in the wild. Yes, in fact, none of us really do know the sound of the fox. We just doubt that it’s “Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding.”

Jay Pharoah’s take on the tune is much more meaningful. He teams up with SNL host Kerry Washington for a really relevant tale of a guy who’s caught texting with other women. “What Does My Girl Say?” (officially titled “The Girl”)¬†adds a family reunion for some heavy-handed comedy at the beginning, but “What Does My Girl Say?” really ends up as a potential pop hit. It’s wisely left up to Kerry to handle the comedy. Jay sounds like a real soul man while addressing a topic that’s near and dear to many males.

Anyway, check out the SNL take, and let’s hope this inspires more reverent takes on fun Youtube clips. It would really be nice to hear some romantic lyrics to “Baby Monkey (Going Backwards On A Pig).” We’ve had plenty of relationships like that…
