Saturday Cocktail: BACARDÍ Game Day Grog

Tailgate season has officially begun, which basically means we’re replacing summer afternoon outdoor drinking with game day outdoor drinking (sorry liver). But instead of cracking a beer at that college game today or NFL game tomorrow, maybe you should class it up a little with our good friend BACARDÍ OakHeart.

Now before you revert back to your 21-year-old self and empty a Diet Coke into your cup, we’re going to show you a way to get drunk and impress your friends in the process. If you’re not familiar with BACARDÍ OakHeart, it has a bold smokey flavor that goes perfectly well with grilled meats and all those other artery-clogging tailgate treats we know and love. What is the best way to use this brand new spirit? Try out the recipe below for Game Day Grog this weekend. Not only will your bros get along with this cocktail very well, there is just enough sugar and spice for the ladies. You can thank us later when that girl you had your eye on gushes about what a talented mixologist you are.

BACARDÍ OakHeart Game Day Grog
2 parts Bacardi Oakheart
3/4 parts fresh lemon juice
1 part cinnamon syrup (recipe below)
3 parts Octoberfest Lager
Nutmeg-dusted Granny Smith apple chunks

Shake Rum, lemon and syrup well, then add the beer to the rest of the ingredients before straining over over fresh ice. Garnish with cubed apples (nutmeg dust optional).

Cinnamon syrup:
Add 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of water and 6 cinnamon sticks to a pot. Cover and bring all ingredients to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes then remove pot from heat. Let ingredients stand with lid on for 15 minutes. Place ingredients in the freezer until cool, strain out cinnamon sticks and bottle the syrup.
