Medical Marijuana Is Now Kosher

Orthodox rabbi Efraim Zalmanovich has made an official statement declaring the use of medical marijuana to be not only acceptable but also kosher as well. As a Jew, this is very comforting even though he does continue on to forbid recreational usage. This development is going to give a whole new meaning to the High Holy days. [lead image via weedist]

In Israel, health care providers may prescribe marijuana for more than 30 health ailments including Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and chronic pain. In fact, Israel is one of the largest producers of medical marijuana outside the USA. According to the Israeli Health Ministry, Israel distributes 880 pounds of marijuana per year. While The Netherlands only distributes 330 pounds of medical-grade cannabis per year.
